The idea that the monster under your bed when you’re a kid grows into the monster that keeps you up at night obsessing over your mistakes when you’re an adult occurred to me a couple of weeks ago, and I knew I had to try to build a strip around it.  Puberty is, of course, a transition to brand new kinds of mistakes and brand new reasons to care when they’re noticed, so it seemed natural that the monster’s transition would run parallel to this.

I’ve hit on some dark topics with PartiallyClips, but this one somehow creeps me out more than anything else I’ve written.  I’m not sure if it’s the idea that you never really outrun your childhood monsters, or if it’s the idea that your own brain is a total jerk and always has to have some nasty way to keep you up and agitated when you need to sleep, and if you don’t have enough mistakes to replay in your memory bank, it’s going to make something up – which of course hits you in the face like you just hit “redial” on a brand new unused phone and got a whispered “hello?”

…I really need to stop thinking about this.

MRS. SHOEBOX’S ASSESSMENT OF TODAY’S STRIP:  *Chuckle with aghast expression* That’s creepy as fuck.

Goodnight, Jimmy.
