This is based on an actual conversation I witnessed at a Radio Shack – some poor schmo (Chrome assures me that this is the correct spelling of “schmo”) was attempting to purchase a new battery for his phone, and the clerk, after explaining that the battery was $60, tried to talk him into upgrading his phone.

I have no idea whether he succeeded, because I decided I didn’t want to know, and left the store.  This course of action ultimately failed to keep me from obsessing over the implication of a seemingly-successful economic model based on the perpetuation of consumer ignorance.  But at least I got a strip out of it, dammit.
