This is another one of those clips that’s been sitting in my notebook for a long time waiting for the right story. After pursuing and rejecting a rather ambitious direction of two sanitation workers discussing the dissolution of one’s marriage using nothing but garbage-related metaphors, I dumped everything but the metaphor idea and wound up with this.
I tried without the last line, and I tried variations of the last line, but to me, nothing packed quite the same punch. The strip needs the contrast of a strong, vulgar, stupid final line, and the line I ended up with just seems to be the line it needs. I provided the papers with a clean option, but it’s just not the same.
MRS. SHOEBOX’S ASSESSMENT OF TODAY’S STRIP: *laughter* *pause* *blink* *more laughter* Nice!
