Castle

I have a sneaking suspicion many readers will guess what’s going on in this one by the second panel.  We’ll see.

Don’t forget, May 9th is the last day that submissions will be accepted for the PartiallyClips Church Bake Sale Contest!   Finalists will be selected by an anonymous panel of judges next week, and then comes the voting!

See you guys on Tuesday!

“do not go near yon castle, you’ll loose all of your quarters”

  2. Dizzley

Good grief it took a while for the penny/quarter to drop for me.

  3. Medemia

    Was he naked?

  4. DrDon

I had a feeling that’s where it was going, but wasn’t sure until last panel. Nice take on a classic game.

Coincidentally, SlashFilm posted faux Pac-Man movie trilers today: http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/05/06/votd-pac-man-movie-trailers/

It was like Deja Vu all over again.

  6. Baywolfe

Well, his wife was a “libber” anyway. Ms. Pac-Man indeed…

It’s interesting, though, that the guidebook doesn’t mention the drug stashes (powerful stimulants, formed into pellets) that the Count also kept in there, near the corners of the outer walls. Or would that just be too shocking for the tourists?

(For the record, I didn’t get it until panel 3.)

  8. ColdFusion

Got it on the first panel, THANK you for being subtle. A good joke like that deserves the good execution you gave it :)

  9. BLANDCorporatio

Paqueman … Paqueman … sounds familiar, but google does not return any results involving castles and counts! Why do you tease us so, with jokes relying on medieval arcana?!

Oh, and I guess the Princess had also left this castle, right?

  10. Bayram

But … they’re not looking at a castle. It’s a cathedral or something like that.

  11. ColdFusion

Oh man, I didn’t even notice the ‘paqueman’.. it didn’t even need it. XD

French High Gothic it looks like, probably 13th century. It’s probably a cathedral (a cathedral is the seat of a bishop, but most large Gothic churches in France were cathedrals). Oh well. Actually its no so bad, because a lot of cathedrals were built by men who were count bishops.

    Good joke anyways.

Also, a lot of cathedrals did have labyrinths, but they were just the drawn on the floor kind, so you couldn’t really get lost. They symbolized the pilgrimage to Jerusalem.

M – That’s actually really cool. Thanks for the info.

I’m a software engineer by trade, so I know remarkably little about old buildings beyond the fact that “flying buttresses” is really fun to say. So this little example of my architectural ignorance is probably the first of many – if this is even the first.

Bah, I was thinking Castlevania, and waiting for a joke about large ham dinners being hidden within stone walls.

Caught me completely by surprise there in the third panel! Good stuff!
