Years ago, my girlfriend (now my wife) and I were sitting on the balcony of our small apartment talking while a group of kids was playing in the street nearby. We couldn’t see most of them, but we could hear them. In the midst of the merriment, a girl screamed out “Ewww, it’s Joey!” and both of us burst into laughter. We almost immediately began addressing each other in this manner and making various suggestions to each other about the therapy that Joey would likely require later in his life.
It’s been twelve years since this moment, but sometimes I’ll still come in the door and be greeted with a loving “Ewww, it’s Joey!” Thus, this was the first thing that occurred to me when I saw this piece of clip art. Unfortunately “Ewww, it’s Joey!” doesn’t work with the gag in this strip. But in honor of this seemingly-unending joke I’ve shared with my wife, the character in this strip is named Joey.
…
It occurs to me that Joey is now most likely old enough to purchase firearms.

Still exhausted from PenguiCon,

Seeing as I used to “be” Joey, this strip disturbs me… It’s too close to real life! That is almost exactly what I used to do. Not necessarily the “May I”, but the “little victories” bit…
Good strip again.
Actually, that would be “prepend.”
You know, I think the little story behind this made me laugh even more than the strip itself. Nice way to start a school morning. Thanks.
dont mean to offend, but you’ve had a twelve yr joke with your wife about some poor kid being socially excluded from his peers. and on top of that you right a dull cartoon strip in memory of the occasion. poor kid. you should be ashamed of yourselves. regards meshed09
meshed09, I doubt you offended anybody. Nevertheless, you are still an ass.
I read this to be narrated in the style of The Wonder Years. Then I laughed. Then I forwarded to 5 friends. Excellent.
I’m also enjoying the dancing people in your captcha. If the devil’s in the details, he’s apparently at a dance party. Lucky devil.
@Meshed09
Perhaps you didn’t find the joke to your taste…but if you’re going to be critical, at least do so with proper syntax and spelling, thanks.
Eesh.
God bless America. We have a cartoon, dubious in nature. Almost celebrating the memory of a child being at least ostracised, and maybe even bullied. And yet when a critique is offered. It is slammed down for a lack of spelling and grammar. You must be very proud of yourselves.
Am I the only one who thinks Joey looks like Tin-tin?
