Whenever I do a strip with a narrator character, I always feel like I have to explain that it’s not autobiographical.
In this case, it’s very semi-autobiographical. The “you’re the brain” comment was made at a party in high school, not to me, but to my friend Matt McIrvin (who, in fact, reads PartiallyClips through the LiveJournal mirror and often comments). And to be fair to the guy who asked the question, Matt’s grades and test scores occasionally got him on the local news and into the Washington Post.
The “yes, but it’s the mouth and vocal chords you hear speaking” was something I suggested later on at that party, as something he could have said. Nevertheless, it’s obvious that my brain is proud of it, all these years later, or it wouldn’t have bubbled up to be used as a line in this strip.
