I originally imagined this as a reveal-type punchline, where you learn something in the last panel that throws all the previous setup into a different perspective.

In the course of a number of rewrites, it turned into a little character play with a single-punch that only makes sense in the earlier context.  This is possibly not a laugh-out-loud strip but might evoke something like a deep smirk.

I wish I had the buffer right now to save this for Memorial Day or Veterans Day or maybe the D-Day anniversary, but I’m too far behind not to throw this up right away.  I was purposefully vague about the location of this “beach” and I don’t know how many places actually price things in American dollars for tourists, other than Canada and some of the countries that tie their currency to the US dollar.
