Never gave the name a thought, either. (Then again, I used to know a guy named Nguyen O'Malley.)

Portuguese has h's *after* the consonant (e.g. piranha). The vowel-h-l is more of a Germanic/Scandinavian thing, but the rest of the name looks all wrong for that.

*googles*

It turns out that "Carvalho" (note h after consonant) is a common Portuguese name. "Carvahlo" seems to be an Anglicisation of same.

Yep, I don't think I've ever heard that name before either. I certainly didn't associate it with any particular ethnicity.

I think the "h before a consonant" seems more portuguese than italian, actually.

I didn't notice the name either. Wouldn't have known it was Italian if you hadn't mentioned it. I've never heard or seen the name "Carvahlo" before.
