In writing this, I had two pieces of the punchline and I wanted to include them both. I really wanted to somehow take note of Jimmy’s “natural skepticism.” It seems that there are certain people (I’m one of them) who are either born with the predisposition to be skeptical, or develop it very early in life.
Which is not to say that little Jimmy here is a great thinker. He’s taking the talking pumpkin at face value. But his natural skepticism is still serving him pretty well in identifying “doody,” whatever the context.
Ultimately, though, making both points diluted both points so I just decided that “alternative pumpkin patch” was the more important (and funnier) phrase to include and slimmed it down.
