It’s going to be difficult to read this without at least considering it as an allegory to the 2004 presidential elections. Don’t. I can be quite vocal in person when it comes to the politics of the moment, but I don’t do that in the strip.
If anything, I mean this one as a general commentary on the state of the election process, on the money-driven spin machines that give us our choice of socially-disconnected rich white guys every time. We are supposed to vote for the one who appears the least like he really is. I can never decide if democracy is broken and we’ll never get competent, sincere leadership, or it’s working perfectly and we’re just getting the leaders we citizens deserve for the sad little effort we’re collectively putting into the process.
