A friend of mind has this theory about the PartiallyClips format, that I kinda subscribe to and kinda don’t. He says that the limitations of what I can do with the art forces me to reach beyond normal gagwriting and into deep backstories and other tricks and techniques that a lot of strip writers neglect. I think that the inaction from panel to panel does set a tone for a calm, dialog-driven gag…but I don’t know if it goes much past that. I’ll admit that I can’t have a character fall down for a gag, but I’m only half convinced that the limitations are a good thing. Sometimes I think I could convey a lot more humor if I could at least change some expressions. Anyway, here are two fish pondering the value of limits.

Y’know…this still seems socially apt. …And I’m writing this in Feb. 2013. Some things don’t change much, do they? (Sigh.)
