Much debate went into what major I would pick on for this one. “Communications” almost won, in that I was an English major. We needed some major to disdain, and the lightweights in Communications who couldn’t handle the beast fables of Chaucer seemed good enough. Various other candidates popped up, but ultimately I went for Sports Medicine, because it’s about the most useless knowledge this island kid could be bringing home from college. Plus I know that a lot of Sports Medicine majors have a chip on their shoulder about it.


Actually, is seems like the same sort of injuries which occur during sports would also occur during the sort of activities one would be performing in a low-tech society. Many sports even evolved from ritualized versions of every-day survival skills. Of course, I don’t know if you actually learn anything at all in a Sports Medicine major, but still..
